Afternoons are for exploration: artisan markets, boutique shops, and tucked-away galleries.
What stands out most is its authenticity. Despite its growing popularity, San José still feels like a living, breathing town where Mexican culture leads the way.
The heartbeat of the town: Thursday Night Art Walk
If there is one experience that captures the essence of San José del Cabo, it’s the Thursday Night Art Walk. Honestly, it’s one of my favorite things to do. I never miss it when I’m here, and when I’m away, I can’t wait to go back — again and again.
As the sun sets, the Gallery District comes alive. Galleries open their doors, welcoming visitors to everything from contemporary art to traditional Mexican pieces. But it’s not just about the art. The plaza and surrounding streets become part of the celebration, filled with people, music, and color. At times, it reminds me of the warmth and spirit of the film Coco.
Local artists display their work and handmade jewelry. People line up for tamales, churros, and Mexican corn in a cup. Live music spills from nearby restaurants and bars, creating a soundtrack that feels both festive and intimate.
As you wander, something else happens: strangers strike up conversations, locals greet visitors warmly, and you find yourself staying longer than expected. There’s a sense of connection in the air.
